Granny Mary’s Christmas Gingerbread Recipe

12 oz Plain Flour

Pinch of Bicarbonate of Soda

1 tblsp Ground Ginger

1 tspn Ground Cinnamon

4 oz Butter (I favour slightly salted)

6 oz Soft Brown Sugar

1 Egg (Medium)

4 tblsp Golden Syrup

 

Preheat oven to 180 degrees centigrade.

Line three baking sheets.

Sift dry ingredients into a bowl, add diced butter and mixture with finger tips to a fine crumb consistency.

Beat egg and golden syrup together and add to flour mixture.

When well mixed place in the fridge for at least 15 minutes.

Roll onto a floured surface to approx half an inch thick and cut to shape.

Place shapes on a baking tray with room to spread.

Bake for 15 minutes until starting to brown.

Leave to cool on wire rack.

Decorate using coloured icing, chocolate buttons and dragees.
